CRITERIA & GUIDELINES

CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES

The CEN Victorian State Council exists to serve and represent member schools. One of the most strategic ways CEN can invest in the future of Christian Education is to build human capital. Our pursuit of excellence in Christian Education requires board members, school leaders and educators all serving with head, heart and hand. To grow this capability, CEN Victoria is delighted to offer three development grants of up to $5000 in value to augment schools’ investment in the development of our people and/or service within Christian Education. A grant is offered annually in each of the following categories:

  • Governance

A Governance Development Grant is designed to equip serving board members or company directors with the opportunity to pursue further training or capacity building to fulfill their role. Examples would be subsidizing a Board Chair to undertake a course to learn about the responsibilities of a Company Director, or equipping some board members from a smaller school to attend an ITEC Conference. Additionally, there is an opportunity to support people in school governance to serve others in need within the wider Christian Education movement.

  • Leadership

A Leadership Development Grant is designed to support a senior leader, or emerging senior leader in Christian Education to pursue a professional growth opportunity. This could involve, for example, supplementing study leave while a leader completes a thesis for a higher degree. Alternatively, a proposal for a tour of schools or attending an international conference could be considered favourably if there is a demonstrable benefit to Christian Education. Additionally, there is an opportunity to support leaders to serve others in need within the wider Christian Education movement such as funding a leader to mentor another leader in a remote Christian School.

  • Education

An Education Development Grant is designed to enhance the effectiveness of a practicing educator. This could provide support for an action research project, or subsidise post-graduate units of study with the National Institute for Christian Education. Additionally, there is an opportunity to support educators to serve others in need within the wider Christian Education movement such as funding a teacher to deliver professional development for a Christian School in a needy context.

Note that the CEN Victorian State Council reserves the right to award a grant in each category up to the full $5000, and also to not award a grant in a particular category if there is not a compelling application. The State Council may choose to offer multiple grants in one category if others are not offered.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • A Development Grant applicant must be employed in Christian Education or serving on a Board.

  • A Development Grant applicant must be endorsed by their Principal, or, if a Principal, by their Board Chair

  • A Development Grant applicant must undertake to report back to the CEN Community on the outcomes of their grant work at the Annual Board and Principals’ Dinner.

  • A Development Grant applicant must submit receipts for all expenses incurred through the project or undertaking covered by the grant.

SELECTION GUIDELINES

The CEN Victorian State Council will serve as the selection panel, assessing applications and awarding Development Grants with consideration to the following:

  • Whether schools and/or individuals are co-contributing to the project or undertaking

  • The school and individual capacity to fund the project or undertaking with an interest in supporting those with limited means

  • Applicants with a demonstrated history of contributing to Christian Education in effective, innovative or challenging ways.

  • The merit of the project or undertaking in relation to enhancing Christian Education, with a particular focus on the potential “reach” of the outcomes within and beyond the school and into the future.

  • Whether the project to undertaking has a demonstrable benefit returned to Christian Education National.

  • Whether there is an assigned mentor, advisor or partner who will assist in completing the project or undertaking.

  • Applications must be submitted by the date published on the CEN website and will be announced soon after (subject to availability and meeting schedule of the Victorian State Council).

Note that the CEN Victorian State Council reserves the right to award a grant in each category up to the full $5000, and also to not award a grant in a particular category if there is not a compelling application. The State Council may choose to offer multiple grants in one category if others are not offered.
